Changes are coming to the Sworn Translators Act

Due to coming into force of the Sworn Translators Act on 1 January 2015, the right of translation of official documents from Estonian into foreign languages is exclusively delegated to sworn translators. This means that in the future notaries will no longer be able to certify translator’s signature and accuracy of translation. All the changes in connection with sworn translators will come into force gradually in 2015-2020.

Until 2020 translations from foreign languages into Estonian can be made by both sworn translators and translators without the sworn translator’s qualification. Since 1 January 2020 translations from foreign languages into Estonian are transferred exclusively to sworn translators.

Based on the above and on our experience in this area we foresee possible increase in prices and times for performance of this service.
