A draft bill has been approved to reduce required minimum salary for expatriates

26.05.2016 The Government has approved a draft bill that reduces the salary an employer shall pay to a foreign worker in Estonia. Today the minimum is 1.24 of the average wages in Estonia. In the future (if the project is approved by the Parliament of Estonia) this ratio will be equal to 1.

Current requirements are often an obstacle for drawing foreign workers to Estonia and some politicians think it is holding back the development of the national economy.

It is noteworthy that in the draft amendments to the Alien Act, IT specialists will be exempt from the immigrants’ quote, which once again emphasises Estonia’s strive to develop information technology.
